Our Humidor

The Ideal Environment for Fine Cuban Cigars

A Habano is a completely natural product, created from carefully cultivated and aged tobacco leaves. Long after a cigar has been rolled and placed in its box, the tobacco continues to respond to the surrounding temperature and humidity.

For this reason, correct storage is essential.

At La Casa del Habano Samnaun, our cigars are kept in a dedicated walk-in humidor designed to provide a stable, carefully controlled environment. Every element of the space—from its professional humidification system to the extensive use of Spanish cedar—has been chosen to protect the condition, aroma and character of our Habanos.

Professional Brune Humidification

At the heart of our humidor is a professional Brune humidification system.

Brune is recognised for producing high-quality humidification equipment for cigar rooms, specialist retailers and private collections. The system introduces moisture into the air in a controlled and consistent manner, helping us maintain the relative humidity required for the proper storage of premium cigars.

Our target is to keep the humidor within the ideal range of approximately 65–70% relative humidity, together with a cool and stable temperature.

Consistency is just as important as the reading itself. Sudden fluctuations can cause tobacco leaves to expand or contract, potentially affecting the wrapper, construction and smoking performance of a cigar. The Brune system helps us maintain an even environment throughout the humidor, while conditions are regularly monitored by our team.

Spanish Cedar Throughout

Spanish cedar has been used in cigar storage for generations, and it is an essential part of our humidor.

The interior incorporates Spanish cedar throughout, creating an environment particularly well suited to the long-term storage of Habanos. Its natural properties help regulate moisture by absorbing and releasing small amounts of humidity as conditions change.

This helps soften minor fluctuations and supports a more stable atmosphere around the cigars.

Spanish cedar is also valued for its distinctive aroma, which complements rather than overwhelms the natural fragrance of fine tobacco. It provides the familiar atmosphere associated with traditional Cuban cigar rooms and helps create the ideal setting for boxes to rest and mature.

Why Humidity Matters

A cigar stored in conditions that are too dry can lose its natural oils and elasticity. The wrapper may become fragile, the cigar may burn too quickly, and the flavour can become noticeably sharper.

A cigar stored in excessive humidity may become difficult to light, draw poorly or burn unevenly.

The objective is therefore not simply to make a cigar moist. It is to maintain the correct balance.

When properly conditioned, the tobacco remains supple, the wrapper retains its integrity and the cigar is able to burn slowly and evenly. Its aromas remain expressive, and the flavours developed during fermentation and ageing can be enjoyed as intended.

A Stable Home for Every Habano

Our humidor houses a carefully selected range of Cuban cigars, from established classics to limited editions, regional editions and rare releases.

Every box is stored under the same controlled conditions, whether it remains with us for a few weeks or is given additional time to rest and mature.

New arrivals are allowed to acclimatise gradually to the environment of the humidor. Boxes are handled carefully, conditions are checked regularly, and our collection is continuously reviewed by the La Casa del Habano Samnaun team.

This attention to detail is particularly important in Samnaun, where our location at 1,844 metres in the Swiss Alps means that the climate outside the humidor can vary considerably throughout the year. Inside, however, our objective remains constant: a cool, balanced and stable environment for every cigar in our care.

From Our Humidor to Yours

The responsibility of storing a fine cigar does not end when it leaves our shop.

Online orders are prepared with care, and suitable humidity protection is included to help maintain the cigars’ condition during transportation. Once received, we recommend allowing the cigars time to settle in a properly maintained humidor before smoking.

For long-term storage at home, we recommend maintaining approximately 65–70% relative humidity and avoiding excessive heat or sudden changes in temperature.

At La Casa del Habano Samnaun, every cigar begins its journey to you from an environment created specifically for the preservation and enjoyment of the Habano.

Because a great cigar deserves to be stored with the same care with which it was grown, aged and made.
